Earth Is Dying : Climate Change Consequences at its peak

The past few years have seen a rapid surge in climate-related disasters, highlighting the need for immediate collective action. There are many recent cases that we have witnessed in recent years, and all of them have left impact on our planet Earth.

The most recent case of 2024 is the Wayanad Landslide. The landslides occurred on 30 July 2024 in the villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Meppadi in Wayanad district. Almost 215 bodies were recovered, and 206 or more bodies are missing. This is just the beginning, and God knows how many more people will die…

This year is the hottest on record. The summer of 2024 has become increasingly deadly, with over 100 lives lost and the health of thousands of Indians severely impacted by extreme weather conditions. India has recorded over 40,000 suspected heatstroke cases amid the prolonged heatwave.

Ladakh, which is an arid cold desert, has burned this summer. Flights were cancelled at the Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport in Ladakh's Leh district due to rarefied air induced by heat waves.

Not only in India, but the heatwaves has created havoc worldwide this year. The UK experienced a heatwave in July 2024, with temperatures rising up to 40°C. The UK's highest temperature is expected to be broken again, with temperatures possibly reaching 41°C.

And these are just a few examples of our present climatic conditions, and it is rapidly increasing every day, every moment.

2024 is considered an El Niño year, which means the oceans have warmed up, or there are above-average sea surface temperatures. This heat surge is not an isolated occurrence but a part of a worrying upward trend in global temperatures.

As per expert advice by Dr Maria Rodriguez, Climate Scientist: “Climate Change is no longer a distant threat; it’s a harsh reality. We must take immediate action to reduce emissions and transition to renewable energy sources.”

As world leaders convene to address the climate crisis, one thing we need to understand is: the time for denial is over. The time for change is now. We need to stay informed and vigilant. The future of our planet depends on it.
