Doctor stabs his wife to death in West Bengal's Bagdah,  surrenders at local police station

A doctor doing his MD at Post-Graduate Medical Education & Research Institute stabbed his 25-year-old wife to death at their home in North 24 Parganas' Bagdah and surrendered at the local police station. His name is Arindam Bala, and he has been arrested. Bala told officers he had killed his wife, Ratnattoma Dey Bala, in extreme anger during an argument over a family conflict.

The police found Ratnattoma's body lying in a pool of blood in the couple's bedroom, and initial investigation said she was brutally stabbed with a sharp arm. An officer said, "There were stab injuries all over her body. Police said a murder case has been registered after Ratnattoma's father, Rajib Kumar Dey, filed an FIR with Bagdah police station.


West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee declares a hike in the monthly allowance of Hindu priests and Muslim clerics

The BJP is funding to influence communal pressure ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, said West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a conference of Muslim clerics in Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee announced a monthly hike of Rs 500 for Hindu priests and Muslim clerics.

At a conference of imams, Muslim clerics and muezzins in Kolkata's Netaji Indoor stadium, she said, "Our capacity is restricted. I would appeal to boost their monthly allowance by Rs 500. The monthly allowance of purohits is also increasing by Rs 500." Purohits will get Rs 1,500 per month. Imams will now get Rs 3,000 monthly as an allowance, and muezzins will get Rs 1,500.


Pakistan spy arrested in Kolkata, delicate documents seized

A Pakistani spy who lives in Bihar. He got detained from Howrah Kolkata; his delicate documents were taken, a Senior Police Officer stated on Saturday. "The man was found precisely involved in actions prejudicial to the safety of India," the officer said.

The man was arrested late on Friday night after hours of investigations, and he said. "Secret news such as videos, photographs and his chats were found in his cell phone. He sent those to a Pakistan's doubtful intelligence operative," the officer said. The accused man works with a courier service company in Kolkata and previously stayed in Delhi. He added that the man will be presented before a city court on Saturday.


Kolkata Metro: New Garia-Airport Corridor to be set by December 2025

This new corridor focuses on connecting the active neighbourhood of New Garia in south Kolkata to the Kolkata Airport, giving a much-needed transportation option for residents and travellers. It is an expansion of the existing Metro Line Six (New Garia-Airport) and a distance of nearly 30 kilometres.

The project includes the construction of a few underground stations along the route, allowing for smooth travel and greater connectedness. The metro line is hoped to decrease travel time between New Garia and Airport. The New Garia-Airport corridor of the Kolkata Metro is ready to become an essential link in the city's public transportation base, providing a stable and modern system that will improve the overall commuting action. The expected date is December 2025; this is something the People of Kolkata are looking forward to. 


Twenty bird species population on the decrease in Bengal

The State of India’s Birds, 2023 report says that many bird species such as the Rock Pigeon, Asian Koel, Indian Peafowl and House Crow are not only healthy in both huge amount and distribution but displaying an “increasing trend”. According to a report, data from about 30,000 birdwatchers were released on Friday. The Report found Migratory shorebirds, Raptors and ducks have decreased the most. The Peafowl, India’s National bird, is one of India's most quickly increasing species today; it says, “Broadening into habitats where it has never happened earlier”.
