‘OMG! O My God’ is back with its sequel, OMG 2!’, a court room comedy on Sex Education. Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Kumar, and Yami Gautam Dhar. Written and directed by Amit Rai, the film is back to remove yet another blindfold from the eyes of the Indian citizens.
The concept of the film
has transferred from religion to the education system, from Kanji bhai
to Kanti bhayu, with The one remaining constant. OMG 2 is a masterpiece
in its own, with a running time of 2hr 35mins, a bit too fast paced for a movie
as lengthy as this, OMG2! did way more than just keeping the audience engaged.

The film piloted with introducing Pankaj Tripathi, as a shiv ka das (devotee of Lord Shiva) who works as a store owner in a Shiv Mandir and lives in a temple provided quarter with his family (wife and 2 children).
The plot thickens as
Vivek, son of Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi), is caught masturbating in
the school premises and is thus, rusticated as a disciplinary action.
This opens up the spot
for introducing Akshay Kumar, a messenger of Lord Shiva, who comes in to help
Kanti on the saying of Lord Shiva himself.

The entire film is a satirical- comedy, where Kanti uses different, ages old books like Panchtantra to establish his point how intercourse is a natural human phenomenon and has been continuously mentioned in these books. The movie continuously targeted how “jab baaki dharam karvate le rahe the, sanatan dharm bhaag rahi thi.” (loosely translating to, Sanatam religion has always been more liberal than given credit for.)
Director Rai has framed
Kanti’s questions with the intention of letting the audience laugh for a
second, before the question takes on a deeper turn, dampening the mood. The entire
film begged one simple yet complex question, Why are teenagers not being
provided sex education?
The concept and story line of the film is amazing and a very relevant topic at this age. However ‘A’ rating the film hampered with the very message the film set out to provide. The star cast Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, themselves spoke in an interview, how this is the first adult film meant for teenagers and should be shown in schools.
The film in my opinion lacked character depth, which is not an issue with only this film but has been with several recently released films. Comparing this to OMG! O My God, the film lacked in several aspects. It was a conscious effort to connect with the characters and empathize with them.

Moreover, the film is quite idealistic, with the defending counsellor, Kamini Maheshwari (Yami Gautam), existing just because it is required by law to do so. Little effort was seen from the defendant’s side to actually win this case, when the ball was easily in the school’s court. The judge and the counsellor both seemed to agree with Kanti Mudgal and continued the case just for the sake of it.
The one point the film
failed to throw arrow at is the sexual harassment Vivek Mudgal faced. The movie
continuously pointed on how what Vivek did could have been prevented, only if,
he had the proper guidance, which is very true, but the fact that he was also
sexually harassed and bullied, just became a small thing in the bigger turn of
events.
The movie is worth the watch, less for entertainment and more for what the message it aims to provide. Masturbation has always been seen in such a bad light, that some children feel guilty for even having certain desires. The movie can be an eye-opener for the parents, as they realize that their children are as much of an individual as them and have such human tendencies.
