Bengali to become a mandatory second language in schools, West Bengal

On Monday, the Bengal’s cabinet passed the idea to make Bengali to be the compulsory subject as the 2nd language in English medium schools. The cabinet meeting, moderated by the chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, also gave a nod.  


An official of PTI stated that, although there are options to choose Bengali as the second language, most of the students prefer Hindi or any other language. As an outcome, students are not getting the chance of learning Bengali accurately. The state cabinet has settled to make Bengali a compulsory second language in all English medium schools in West Bengal.

Citizens demands for necessary steps to be taken immediately. An official said the pumps were being cleared, to wipe out the overabundance of stormwater, and excess bushes had been removed to avoid stagnation of water. However, the flow of water seem to be too rapid.


Residents stated that this year's water logging reminded them of the four-day water logging that took place two years ago, keeping them trapped in their houses.

A commission has been created to create West Bengal's 46 districts On Monday, CM Mamata Banerjee discussed at the State Cabinet meeting that she is considering expanding the state's districts. ‘Duare Sarkar’ requires much improved governance in order for the plan to function smoothly and for management to reach out to people so that they do not have to go far to access government facilities. This move aims to enhance administrative efficiency, promote regional development, and better cater to the needs of the growing population. The state government's decision to increase the district tally reflects their commitment to ensuring effective governance and addressing local concerns.

Kolkata is a city where citizens face massive issues of pollution. The increase in tons of vehicle, it's causing various health problems as well. Experts said Kolkata needs six-lane roads to fit the present amount of vehicles. Kolkata presently has only two-lane roads. 


Among Metros Kolkata has the most car density of 2,448 cars per km.

On 9th August 2023, the streets of Kolkata saw the harsh reality of unemployment outside the Wipro Kolkata office, where over thousand applicants waited in a desperate bid for job opportunities. The scene highlighted the depth of the job crisis, as eager job seekers of various ages and backgrounds lined up for a chance to secure employment. The overwhelming response underscored the challenges faced by individuals in a competitive job market. Many had traveled from different parts of the city, reflecting the widespread need for employment. The incident has sparked discussions about the need for increased job creation, skill development, and support systems to address the pressing issue of unemployment in the region.
