China triggers India once more by issuing stapled visas to Indian Wushu team

China issued stapled visas to three athletes from the Wushu team who were participating in Summer World University Games beginning in Chengdu, China (28th July to 8th August). The Indian Wushu team consisting of eight players, one coach, and three officials was flying on 26th July, Wednesday midnight from Delhi airport, where immigration officials objected to the stapled visas issued to the three female athletes from Arunachal Pradesh Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega, and Mepung Lamgu, who were part of the national wushu team. The Ministry of External Affairs protests calling the visas “unacceptable”. The Indian Wushu team’s trip was cancelled due to this and athletes were left disheartened. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said “India has lodged its "strong protest" with the Chinese side on the matter and there should be no discrimination based on domicile or ethnicity in the visa regime for Indian citizens”.

The stapled visa controversy is seen over the years as China issues them to citizens of Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Stapled visa is an unstamped piece of paper and can be torn off or detached at will. China does this as they think Arunachal Pradesh is Southern Tibet and India strongly disagrees with that.
