Unplugged: Best of The UK

The “Unplugged: Best of the UK” photo exhibition took place in Kolkata from March 10–12, 2023, at the Bengal Gallery, ICCR, 9A Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Kolkata. A three-day photography exhibition celebrating the best of the United Kingdom was hosted by the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata, the Bengal Heritage Foundation, and the Indo-British Scholars’ Association. A total of 85 images of Great Britain taken by 19 photographers from Kolkata and London were displayed in the exhibition. This exhibition is itself a part of the Great British Season.

Nineteen photographers have participated in the exhibition – Amit Sengupta, Bhavna Khemka, Aranya Deb, Priya Virmani, Diwakar Thakore, Jai Patel, Ipshita Ghose, Harsha Mehta, Joydeep Pal, Kanishka Kumar, Saptarshi Kar, Sourav Niyogi, Srinjoy Sen, Sam Mitra, Nandini Ray, Subham Pal, Sabyasachi Dutta, Modhura Roy and Micheal Broad — with a total of 85 photographs.

Photographs of various genres ranging from wildlife, historical monuments, the street life of the UK and art to humans expressing different emotions and professing different vocations were showcased in the exhibition. The exhibition was a huge success and was well-received by the visitors, which included people from various media professionals, students from well-known colleges throughout Kolkata and the general public. This exhibition has provided a platform for the not-so-well-known photographers to exhibit the outcomes of their photogenic expeditions and their creative experiments. To facilitate rapport and effective networking with field experts and industry professionals.

The exhibition was a great success and was a testament to the creativity and hard work of the photographers. The event was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the art of photography and to network with professionals in the industry. It has also motivated the students to give a little extra effort into their photography skills, and to take photography seriously and not as a leisure activity. It was overall an amazing experience for me. There were a few things I am glad I have learned from this exhibition, i.e., capturing photographs in less formal settings and in a simpler manner. It was a motivational and learning experience.
