India plummets to 107 in World Index Hunger
India has ranked 107th out of 121 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2022, ranking much behind its South Asia counterparts, with a recorded child wasting rate of 19.3, the highest in the world.
The report was released by the Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe, a non-government organisation from Ireland and Germany respectively.
On Saturday, October 15th, the Centre rejected the report, alleging it as an effort to taint the country’s image and also criticised the index for “methological issues” and declared it to be an “erroneous measure” of hunger.
The Swadeshi
Jagran Manch (SJM) called the Global Hunger Index report to be “irresponsible
and mischievous” on October 16th, and urged the Union Government to
take actions against the report for “defaming” India.
“Rupee not sliding, Dollar Strengthening”: says Nirmala Sitaraman
Ms. Sitharaman
has justified the rupee's 8% decline in value versus the dollar this year
during her continuing tour of the United States by claiming that the dollar,
not the rupee, has risen.
NCP has described
this statement as absurd and asked Ms. Sitaraman to focus on her ministry
rather than trying to ensure that BJP wins the Lok Sabha elections 2024. They
also added that safeguarding country’s economy is her first and foremost duty
and making such statements won’t hide the incompetence of the government.

Father of ORS [Photo Courtesy: google/twentyfourhour news] |
Ever since we
can remember, ORS has long been a well-known treatment for dehydration in our
homes. Although the answer is well-known, its inventor does not receive the
credit he merits. Dr. Dilip Mahalanabis, the forerunner of the diarrhoea
treatment revolution, dies in Kolkata at the age of 87.
During the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Dr. Mahalanabis developed the concept for ORS while working in overcrowded refugee camps.
