Man gets 5 years jail time under new anti-conversion law in UP

A 26-year-old carpenter was convicted to 5 years in jail under Uttar Pradesh’s new Unlawful Conversion Act of 2021 on Saturday, the 17th of September. 

This conviction is the first of its kind, confirmed by Ashutosh Panday, director general of police, prosecution. 

Amroha police arrested Afzal from Delhi for kidnapping a 16-year-old girl belonging to another community on April 4th, 2021. The Amroha judicial system imposed a 5-year sentence on Afzal and a penalty of Rs 40,000.

Cheetahs return to India after 70 years of extinction

Before being hunted to extinction, Cheetahs roamed in all parts of India. On the 17th of September, they returned to India in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district. 

8 cheetahs were relocated from Namibia in Africa to the Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary, in hopes to revive a once widespread population of cheetahs. 

The original idea was to bring Asiatic cheetahs to India, as the animals would adjust easier to Indian conditions, but Iran rejected this idea. Only Iran still has them, numbering around just 12. The 8 cheetahs brought to India are African cheetahs, numbering around 7,000 worldwide. 

Tragedy in Jharkhand with 7 dead, 45 injured

Seven people were killed and 45 injured after a bus fell off a bridge in Jharkhand, reports say. 
The passengers, all of Sikh background, were traveling to attend a religious function, according to Hazaribagh SP Manoj Chothe. 

PM Modi tweeted out: “Anguished by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover soon.”

It appears that the driver took a sharp turn to avoid hitting a cart vendor on the bridge and fell into a dry riverbed.

Chandigarh University allegations sparks protests

A massive protest erupted on Chandigarh University in Punjab’s campus over rumors that private videos of several women students were recorded and leaked by a woman student to her boyfriend- these videos numbering near 60.

The police have denied this, saying that the girl had shot videos of herself and shared them with her boyfriend, according to NDTV. 

The police have also stated that they have found no other videos of any other girl, and that “rumor-mongering had led to panic and protests by the students”, according to NDTV. 

The girl and her boyfriend, along with another boy alleged to be her ex-boyfriend, have been arrested. The university has suspended the hostel warden.

Delivery man held on molestation charges in Pune

On Sunday the 18th of September, Kondhwa police arrested 40-year-old Raees Shaikh on molestation charges. Allegedly, he delivered a food parcel and molested her after requesting a glass of water. 

The unnamed food delivery company deny that he was an associate of the platform.

Sub-inspector Sachin Khetmalis said

 “The suspect after consuming water caught hold of the girl’s hands forcibly. He then touched her inappropriately and tried to flee after the girl raised an alarm. The building residents caught hold of the suspect and handed him over to the police. The terrified girl reported the matter to her landlord who in turn contacted the police”
