The Narkeldanga Rape and Kidnapping

On the night of September 20, a 12-year-old girl was reportedly kidnapped by a neighbor and brought to Kolkata. Later, she was allegedly raped by three men in Narkeldanga. The kidnapper and the Locals helped the police catch the accused trio after multiple raids in the districts of Dankuni, Dhaniakhali, and Belmuri. The ‘kidnapper’ was also arrested and the girl has been safely sent to a shelter home.

 

 According to the reports by DC (ESD) Piyobrata Roy, the girl was brought from Baduria by Basirhat resident Rabiul Gazi(27) for reasons which are still under investigation. One of the accused tempted them for food and shelter but instead took the girl to Narkeldanga where he and two of his friends raped her. Gazi informed the police and after a manhunt, the girl was rescued and the three (3) accused were arrested.

 

41 New EV Charging Station To Be Set Up By KMC


To address the concerns related to the lack of infrastructure to help the buyers of an electric vehicle.

The KMC is looking for space to install EV charging stations. The space adjacent to car parking lots will be chosen for the installation of such stations. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has planned to set up at least 41charging stations all across the city.


Some of the places include Shyambazar, Burrabazar, Chittaranjan Avenue, College Street, Park Circus, Alipore, Behala, New Alipore, Jadavpur, Behala, Tollygunge, and Rashbehari Avenue among others.

As of right now, the city has a few charging stations in Dhakuria, Gariahat, and Circus Avenue. The use of charging stations is minimal due to the lack of electric vehicles.


The availability of EV charging spots will also mark an important milestone in meeting the Green Commitment made by Mayor Firhad Hakim. 

 

Dengue upsurge in BMC

Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation Area (BMC) of Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur area reported 306 new dengue cases in the past 7 days. To help the civic authorities keep the surge in check, the State Urban Development Department is providing financial and infrastructural support. 


A dengue coordination meeting was held by Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim on Friday, September 23, with Bidhannagar MLA and Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose, BMC mayor Krishna Chakraborty and MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.


Most of the hotspot areas and 70% of the dengue cases are occurring in rural areas.


Hakim announced the noticeability of a new dengue strain- DEN 3. The state Government has given Rs. 98 lakhs in financial assistance along with three Elisa machines and five sanitary inspections to combat dengue. 


Smuggled Gold Worth Rs. 6.2 crore Recovered In Barrackpore


Four people were arrested on Belgharia Expressway and around 11kg gold, worth 6.2 Crores was recovered from their car at around 4:30 Am on Friday, September 23. 


The car was spotted on the Dakshineswar-bound flank of the expressway at Prafulla Nagar by a patrolling team. Ajoy Prasad, DCP, South Zone, Barrackpore Commissionerate reported “They were seated inside the car. The cops questioned them and found several inconsistencies in their statements. During the search, cops found the gold hidden inside the car.”


The accused pleaded guilty and confessed to smuggling gold from Bangladesh.


The Barrackpore Court has ordered the four to remain in police custody for five days.

 

Street Safety For Durga Puja



On Monday, September 19, Raids were conducted by The Kolkata Traffic Police at 49 points to ensure the safety of people while the preparations for Durga Puja are underway. A total of 285 bikers were booked in two phases during the seven (7) hour raid. 62 cases of drinking and driving were reported by Sunil Yadav, DC(Traffic).


According to police sources, the first phase of the raid had begun at 10:30 pm on Monday and continued till 1:30 am. The second phase took place from 1:30 am to 4:30 am. The areas where the Nakas were conducted included Howrah Bridge, ATM road, Elgin road, and Park Circus 7-point crossing.


Cops have also set up Naka points at 40 locations including Ganguly street, Moulali Crossing, JL Nehru-Park street Crossing, New Alipore petrol pump, Gariahat crossing, Hazra Crossing, Mominpore Crossing, Kidderpore crossing, Thakurpukur Bazar, Hiland Park, and Beckbagan Crossing.
