8 killed, over 50 missing after huge Landslide hits Manipur's Territorial Camp 

On June 30, a massive Landslide took 8 lives as it hits a town in Western Manipur’s Noney district. Over 50 people went reportedly missing.  

The incident took place in a railway construction site in Tupul destroying Territorial Army camp. Out of eight, 7 army personnel death were confirmed. 4 railway personnel, 20 villagers including children and other army personnel are feared missing. Rescue operation is on and 18 people are rescued as of now. 

In a tweet, PM Narendra Modi said, “Spoke to Manipur CM Shri @NBirenSingh Ji and reviewed the situation due to a tragic landslide. Assured all possible support from the Centre. I pray for the safety of all those affected. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon”.  

Biren has announced an amount of Rs. 5,00,000 Lakh each as ex-gratia to the families of the dead and 50,000 each to those injured. 

Nearby villages are under threat as the debris has blocked River Ijai. The disaster response teams are working relentlessly to fully clear the debris. 

Uddhav Thackeray resigns, Eknath Shinde takes over 

Thackeray resigned from his positionas Maharashtra CM on June 29 after a rebellion caused a split in the Shiv Sena. He also quits his membership in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.  

Uddhav Thackeray cabinet’s last major decision approved the renaming of Aurangabad city as Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv. 

The BJP along with Shinde have been in talks for the last few days over the formation of a new government and distribution of portfolios among other things. 

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Devendra Fadnavis said, “We have decided to give support to Eknath Shinde and his group. Eknath Shinde to be the CM and he will take the oath as CM today”. 

So, on Thursday, Eknath Shinde took oath as Maharashtra's New Chief Minister at the Raj Bhavan and Devendra Fadnavis as deputy CM. 

Kanhaiya Lal beheaded over post supporting Nupur Sharma amid prophet row: Udaipur 

On June 28, Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was brutally murdered by two Muslim men who pose as customers at his shop in Udaipur. He was beheaded over his social media post supporting Nupur Sharma in prophet row. 

Rajasthan Police is probing links of attackers- Riyaz Attari and Ghous Mohammed with Pakistani Extremist Group. In their viral videos, the attackers were seen attacking Kanhaiya Lal. They could also be heard saying that next they would slit PM Narendra Modi’s throat whenever they get a chance. ‘Sar tan se Juda’ slogans were also raised all over and out of India by Muslim community over Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet. 

On June 11, Hindu victim Kanhaiya Lal was arrested by the local police after a complaint was launched against him by his neighbour Nazim. On June 15, Kanhaiya had launched a written complaint to the police that he is getting threat calls. He had earlier sought police protection but to no avail. 

Olympic Star Neeraj Chopra Breaks His Own National Record at Stockholm Diamond League, Finishes Second  

In the Stockholm Diamond League, India’s Ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finishes second by breaking his own National Record on Thursday by throwing his personal best of 89.94m. This is the first time Neeraj finished in the top 3 in a diamond league and slowly progressing towards his goals. He finishes behind the season’s best Thrower Grenada’s Anderson Peters who threw 90.31m and ranked the first position.  

It was a fantastic series of 6 throws for Neeraj Chopra, who finished in the top 3 in a Diamond League match for the first time - 89.94m, 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m, 86.67m, and 86.84m. 

World Diamond League tweeted, “What a competition in Men’s Javelin. A meeting record of 90.31 sees @peters_oly claim his second wind of the season…but it’s an Indian record of 89.94 for runner-up @Neeraj_chopra1!” 

First successful flight of India’s unmanned aircraft  

On Friday the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully execute the maiden flight of the autonomous flying wing technology demonstrator at Chitradurga, Karnataka.  

Bengaluru Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) designed and develop this first unmanned Aircraft and named it – Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. It was carried out for Aeronautical Test Range.  

“Congratulations to DRDO on the successful demoiselle flight of the Autonomous Flying Wing Technology Demonstrator from Chitradurga ATR. It is a major achievement towards independent aircraft which will pave the way for Aatmanirbhar Bharat in terms of critical military systems,” Rajnath Shinde Tweeted.
