Bengal BJP establishes 27 new district committees
For each of Bengal's 23 districts, the BJP maintains 42 organisational units. The process of selecting new committee members, which was scheduled to be finished by January 10, was put on hold due to disagreement in various regions.
Schools Re-open in West Bengal
With the situation showing signs of improvement, pressure is mounting on the State government to re–open educational institutions. Over the past few days, supporters of the Left student organisations have protested in the streets demanding re–opening of schools. During the day, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari along with BJP MLAs held a demonstration in front of the Bikash Bhawan, headquarters of the
School Education Department. Mr. Adhikari said he wanted to meet officials to know the reason for not opening educational institutions.
A minibus collides in Kolkata, injuring ten people
A minibus carrying 40 people went turtle at the Dorina crossing in Kolkata on Sunday afternoon at about 2 p.m., injuring at least ten passengers. According to witnesses, the speeding bus turned around at the intersection of SN Banerjee Road and Jawaharlal Neheru Road and went down.
The bus was leaving the Park Circus neighbourhood and going towards Howrah. The travellers were on their way to Howrah for a family gathering. Several passengers were said to be stranded. The bus's glass windows were shattered in order to save the passengers. The injured have been sent to the SSKM hospital.
In a first, COVID positive man donates his body for medical research
On Friday, the body of a Kolkata resident who died from the COVID virus was given for medical research on the virus. This is possibly the first instance of a COVID-positive man donating his body for study prior to death. Nirmal Das, who died of cancer, has been identified as the dead donor.
Das lived in the city's New Town neighbourhood. West Bengal reported 3,805 new COVID cases on Friday. According to an official, the body of 89-year-old Nirmal Das was donated to the forensic department of RG Kar Medical College on Saturday.
Students will have COVID 2nd-dose vaccination from February
A government official stated that the drive to deliver the second dosage of Covaxin to children in government and aided schools will begin in February so that Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinees are completely vaccinated by the time their examinations begin in March and April, respectively.
The government delegated responsibility for vaccination of the 15-18 age group (students in grades IX to XII) in Kolkata beginning in early January to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
