The new year is already two weeks old and we are still in the hangover of some of the masterpieces from 2021. Here are a list of films to watch and/or re-watch from last year.

The Power of the Dog 

Jane Campion’s magnificent Montana western about toxic masculinity and homicide on the range is the cinematic power, the most flawless acting, direction and music that we had seen on screen this year. The cast of this film is Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee. 


The Woman in the Window 

Fans of Alfred Hitchcock will be pleased to know that this film is full to the brim with references, including swirling snow and a winding spiral staircase that echoes the visuals of the 1958 film, vertigo. The cast of this movie includes Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. 


Fear Street Part 1: 1994 

Attention queer women horror lovers, in Shadyside, the murder capital of the USA a brutal unmotivated mass killing sends a shiver down the spine making the unholy name of Sarah the local witch pop-up. To investigate the evil, centuries-old secret, five teenage friends team up to fight against the unstoppable, supernatural forces to stay alive. The cast of this thriller includes Maya Hawkew, Charlene Amoia, David W. Thompson, Noah Bain Garret and many more. 


Haseen Dillruba 

Under a police investigation, as a prime suspect in her husband’s brutal murder, a wife reveals details of their marital relationship that only seems to blur the reality. The cast of this plot-twister of a thriller is Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane, Aditya Srivastav, Yamini Das and Daya Shankar Pandey among many others. 


Dhamaka 

Arjun Pathak, a cynical ex-TV news anchor sees both danger and opportunity when he gets alarming and threatening calls being on air on his radio show regarding a terrorist attack, from the attacker himself. The cast of this nail biter movie include Kartik Aryan, Mrunal Thakur, Amruta Subhash, Soham Majumder, Vikas Kumar and many more. 


83 

83 shows the dramatic enactment of the spine-chilling events of the year 1983 when the Indian Cricket team for the first time ever won the World Cup beating twice over world champions west-indies in the Lord’s cricket ground, putting India back on to the cricket world stage. The cast of this movie includes Ranveer Singh, Hardy Sandhu, Jiiva, Tahir Bhasin, Ammy Virk, 

Chirag Patil, Nishant Dahiya, Mohinder Amarnath, Saqib Saleem and Deepika Padukone among all others. 


Prem Tame 

It is a Bengali romance film directed and written by Anindya Chatterjee, which shows Pablo’s dizzying puppy love for actually falling in love with a puppy. The cast includes Sweta Mishra, Susmita Chatterjee, Kankana Chakroborty and Soumya Mukherjee. 


Bony 

Bony is a science fiction thriller about a married couple who tries to decipher their unusual childbirth. The film is directed by Parambrata Chatterjee starring himself, Koel Mullick and Anjan Dutta and Kanchan Mullick. 


Tonic 

Tonic is a family drama where a seventy-five-year-old Jaladhar Sen faces emotional trauma with a plan to celebrate the old couple’s wedding anniversary minimally. Sen Then plans for a foreign trip and comes across the travel agent named Tonic. The film shows how Tonic becomes relevant to his name; the cast includes Dev, Paran Bandyopadhyay, Koneenica Banerjee among all others.
