119 Padma Awards presented by President Ram Nath Kovind
This year, President Ram Nath Kovind distributed 119 Padma Awards 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards. Padma awards conferred in three awards- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shree, and Padma Bhushan. It is India’s one of the highest civilian Award. Moreover, 29 of the awardees are women, 16 awardees are posthumous and 1 is transgender awardee.
Threat of another virus: Norovirus
On Friday Kerala confirm 13 cases of norovirus from a veterinary college in Pookode near Vythiri in Wayanad district. A highly contagious virus transmits through close contact with infected people, touching contaminated surfaces, excrement and vomit of an infected person, or through contaminated food and water. State health minister Veena George issue some guidelines regarding safety of people and ask people to be vigilant. Kerala is now becoming state of pioneer viruses as again a new virus is spreading from Kerala.
Violence led to Amravati under 4 days curfew, Internet Shut:
On Saturday Maharashtra city Amravati witnessed a violence as mob threw stones at shops during the bandh (shut-down) allegedly organised by the local BJP workers. News mentions that it was in protest against the rallies organized by the Muslim organizations the day before to condemn the recent violence in Tripura. During early hours of the day hundreds of people came out on streets and threw stones on shops of Rajkamal chowk area. Later police lathi-charged the protesters to bring the situation under control. City is under curfew for next 4 days and internet services were also shutdown.
Delhi closes schools for next one week
Air quality in Delhi continue to worsen as AIQ arose by 427 which counted as most hazardous. CM Arvind Kejriwal announced online classes from Monday and government officials to work from home for next one week. Government emphasizes on improving frequency of public transport services like buses and metros. Huge demand to stop diesel generators, burning of coal and firewood in restaurants and open-air eateries come from Central Pollution Control Board on Saturday evening. From a report it’s concluded that breathing a day in Delhi is equal to smoke 20 cigarettes in a day.
