The Indian informal economy recorded a sharp fall to around 15-20% of the formal GDP as against 52% three years ago in the latest SBI report. The estimate data based on EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organisation) claims that since FY18 almost, 36.6 lakh jobs have seen formalization in the sector. As per the National Survey of 2014, around 93% of the workforce consisted of informal workers.

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report released recently confirmed that the number of agricultural labourers who died by suicide in 2020 was 18% higher than the prior year. According to the 2020 report, the NCRB did not publish the Accidental Deaths and Suicides data without stating any reason.

With dropping vaccination rates across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with District Magistrates of over 40 districts. PM Modi stressed micro strategies to address the vaccine hesitancy and availability at the local level to take the districts nearer the national average.

Two waste-based recycling projects in Assam bagged international awards for their innovative sustainable business model. Shree Guru Plastics and Inside Out, two companies situated in Guwahati, won the challenge among the 100 competitors participating around the world for a zero-waste city challenge organized by WasteAid.

Air quality slumped to severe 462 AQI (Air Quality Index) after the festival of Diwali. The air quality over Delhi will remain poor until November 6, and then it will improve due to the rise in wind speeds. According to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), stubble burning and farm fires from Punjab and Haryana were down by 50% compared to last year.
