CBI classifies supplementary charge sheet for Rose Valley scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has classified a supplementary charge sheet against the Rose Valley group in a chit-fund scam of ₹464.8 crores and in violation of SEBI regulations. Among those accused are the group’s former managing director Shibamoy Dutta, then directors Ashok Kumar Saha and Ram Lal Goswami, Rose Valley Hotel & Entertainment Limited (Kolkata).


TMC win all 4 bypolls in West Bengal by massive margins



The ruling party Trinamool Congress defeated the opposition with a clean sweep in all bVeteranypoll elections held on October 30. The TMC, in total, garnered 75.02 per cent of the votes cast, while the BJP got 14.48 per cent votes in the four assembly segments. The EC announced its official results, and on Twitter, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised her party candidates for their victory.


NIA busts one suspected JMB operative from West Bengal

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) busted one suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operative from the South 24 Parganas. The suspected JMB operative has been recognised as Md. Abdul Mannan Bachu alias Mannan alias Md. Abdul Mannan Sheikh was associated with arranging fake Indian identity documents for the terrorists of JMB who had illegally entered India.


Veteran TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee cremated with state honours



The last remains of veteran Trinamool Congress leader and Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee were cremated with state honours in Kolkata on Friday evening, with political leaders across party lines paying their homage to him. The 75-year-old minister was given the gun salute at the Keoratola crematorium in the southern part of the city. State government also declared a seven-day mourning for the death of an eminent political figure due to a massive cardiac arrest at a state-run hospital.


Eight films from Bengal selected for IFFI’s 52nd edition in Goa

Eight films from Bengal were selected for the Indian Panorama section to be screened during the 52nd edition of the International Film Festival of India in Goa from November 20 to 28 this year. There are five feature films and three non-feature films from Bengal. The five feature films are Kalkokkho, Nitantoi Sahaj Saral, Abhijaan, Manikbabur Megh, Dictionary and the three non-feature films selected are Badal Sircar & the Alternative Theatre, Naad — The Sound and Sainbari To Sandeshkhali.
