India administers 1 billion vaccine doses

Since launching its ambitious vaccination program in January, India has administered over 1 billion doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
According to Government figures, 708 million individuals, or almost 75 per cent of the eligible population, got at least one dose of vaccination, with 30 per cent now completely immunised against the disease. Only individuals above the age of 18 are now permitted to receive the injections.
Kerala Floods: Heavy downpour kills over 27 people in Kerala
At least 27 lives were lost in southern India as a result of floods and landslides caused by heavy rain.
Torrential downpours have lashed the coastal state of Kerala since October 15, causing rivers to rise and flooding roads, submerging vehicles in muddy waters and reducing some houses to rubble.
The Indian army, navy, and air force have been assisting with rescue operations since Saturday. The National Disaster Response Force has deployed 11 teams in Kerala's south and central regions.
Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Union MoS Ajay Mishra’s son, accused of running over farmers, arrested
Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, was remanded in police custody for two days on Friday in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Ashish has been remanded in police custody for the second time by Lakhimpur Kheri Chief Judicial Magistrate Chinta Ram.
With new evidence emerging during its investigation into the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) requested three days of police custody for Ashish, a prime accused, and three others on Thursday. The SIT made the request after identifying the drivers and several occupants of the three SUVs that ran over protesting farmers on the day of the incident, killing four of them and a journalist.
Petrol, Diesel Prices Today Hiked for 4th Day in a Row, Hit New High

Continuing a four-day streak, fuel prices were raised by 35 paise across the country on Saturday, October 23. With this increase, the prices of the fuels skyrocketed yet again, much to the chagrin of Indian citizens. Petrol was priced at Rs 107.24 per litre in the national capital of Delhi, after going through a hike of 35 prices. Similarly, diesel prices increased by the same amount, with a litre costing Rs 95.97, according to an Indian Oil Corporation price notification.
Uttarakhand rains: Death toll rises to 68
The death toll in Uttarakhand rose to 68 on Friday, according to PTI, amid massive rescue efforts following a bout of extreme weather earlier this week. Rescue efforts are underway to locate the missing members of two trekking groups in Harsil and near the Lamkhaga Pass.
Heavy rains lashed Uttarakhand for nearly three days, beginning Sunday night, causing floods, landslides, and widespread property destruction, particularly in the Kumaon hills. The rain has since stopped. On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts dry weather across the state.
