Mamata Banerjee wins Bhabanipore by-polls, she will continue as Bengal's CM




Mamata Banerjee won the by-polls with a record margin of 58,832 votes after the last round of counting. This win means a lot for Banerjee because she lost during the assembly election from Nandi gram, so this win was important for her to continue as the CM of West Bengal.


Renovated Calcutta University beckons scholars and visitors

Since Calcutta University is one of the oldest Universities in India, the infrastructure needed a major renovation. Post Covid-19 situations visitors and scholars are now allowed inside the premises, the change they see seems overnight change for them. But the University is under renovation since, 2017 and now the outcome is beautiful, the heritage, the syndicate hall, senate hall, vice-chancellor's office have gone under a transformation says Vice-chancellor Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee in an interview with The Hindu. She concluded by saying that today the University is modernized and accessible.

Kolkata police can now recruit trans genders



The city police will allow the transgender to sit for the 2021 Calcutta police examination and they will recruit them as officers. The Bengal government on Friday informed the High Court that they had on 14th September thought of introducing a third column besides Male and Female. The petition was accepted by Calcutta HC. Besides, Calcutta Rajasthan, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh have also taken up this step forward.

Metro on Friday clocked 3, 27,515 footfalls, nearly half the amount Metro used to register in the pre-pandemic times. Since the novel coronavirus has hit the Country Metro was suspended from March 2020 that has resumed recently. Metro was the most convenient way to travel from North-South Kolkata, post-pandemic the number of people was lesson 14th September there was a hike in the number of people travelling via Metro.
