India jumps two spots to 46th rank in Global Innovation Index 2021 



Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021, co-published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Cornell University and INSEAD, the report provides an annual ranking of innovation capabilities and performance of 131 countries and economies around the globe. India jumped to 46th Rank from 81th in 2015. Switzerland topped the list. India also ranked second among 34 lower-middle-income group economies and first among the ten economies in Central and Southern Asia. 
 

Karnataka HC upholds Arms Act exemption to Kodavas till 2029 

Arms Act exemption to Kodavas given since 1963 and extended till 2029 has been upheld by Karnataka HC. The special privilege was first granted to Kodavas by the British in recognition of their martial traditions. Kodavas, an ethnolinguistic tribe, are a small military community in Kodagu district in Karnataka. The community's rituals have a deep-rooted connection with guns and other traditional weapons. 

National Informatics Centre bans PM Modi image from Supreme Court emails 



The Registry of the Supreme Court found that official emails from the Supreme Court were carrying a government tagline with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image. The NIC gives email services to the apex court. Clarificatory note issues by the Supreme Court said the image shared as an email footer had “no connection whatsoever with the functioning of the judiciary”. The court immediately commanded the NIC to ban the image and the banner from the emails. 

India, US call for culprits of 26/11 Mumbai attacks to be brought to justice 



India and the United States condemned cross-border terrorism and called for the culprits of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to be brought to justice. Both the countries announced a joint statement after a first in-person bilateral meeting under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden. 

Alert in Odisha over cyclone Gulab 



The Odisha government on Saturday alerted the warning for the cyclonic storm named ‘Gulab’. It is expected to pass the coast between its southern districts and north Andhra Pradesh at wind speeds of 75-85 kph on Sunday evening. Gulab is the second cyclonic storm to grow over the Bay of Bengal and make landfall over the Andhra-Odisha coast this year. 

Severe cyclonic storm Yaas made its landfall near Balasore in Odisha on May 26. According to the National Disaster Response Force, 13 teams (24 sub-teams) deployed in Odisha and five in Andhra Pradesh.
