Unable to purchase books, 16-year-old dies by suicide in Kolkata

A 16-year-old girl, Susmita Singh, was found to have died by consuming pesticide at her home on Picnic Garden Road in Kasba around 11 am on Monday. No suicide note was found in the investigation, but her father abandoned them, and the family's failure to buy her books for financial reasons had forced her to suicide. "The neighbours and relatives took her to CNMC hospital, where she died around 1.30 pm," said DC (SSD) Rashid Munir Khan.


Bengal aims one crore more Covid jabs in next 10 days

Bengal has successfully administered a little above 33 lakh doses of the Covid vaccine in the past three days. Considering this rate, health officials are sure of vaccinating one crore more people in the next ten days if the vaccine supply remains regular and in sufficient quantity.

Vegetable prices soared in cities after continuous rains damaged the supply chain of crops. According to the traders, the supply of vegetables could be further affected if the rain continues in the city. “The supply was being largely sustained by harvested crops. But after the torrential rain, crops in south Bengal have been damaged, creating a supply line issue”, TOI quoted Kamal De, president of the Bengal Vendors’ Association, as saying.


Cyclone Gulab to hit Bengal coast on September 29



The cyclonic storm Gulab is likely to hit the Bengal coast around September 29, director of IMD Kolkata GK Das informed on Saturday. "South Bengal is likely to have enhanced weather activity particularly in terms of heavy rainfall and wind on September 28-29. Heavy rainfall predicted over Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly on September 28," Das told ANI.


Bhawanipur bypoll: CPI(M)-police skirmish after campaigning stopped near CM Mamata's house



The CPI(M)’s Bhawanipur bypoll candidate Srijib Biswas had found engaged in a skirmish with the police on Sunday. He got stopped from campaigning near CM Mamata's house. Senior CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said they have every right to campaign but stopped by police undemocratically.
