US COVID-19 death toll surpassed 1918 influenza pandemic 



COVID-19 has now killed more than 676,000 people, surpassing the death toll of the 1918-19 influenza pandemic. The pandemic has generated a colossal mortality toll on the US population. The University of Washington’s influential model forecasting an additional 100,000 or so Americans will die of Covid-19 by 1 January, which would bring the overall US toll to 776,000. 

Global Internet freedom deteriorates for 11th straight year: China ranks as worst violator 



Global Internet freedom, a parameter that includes digital rights, freedom of information, and the right to Internet access, has deteriorated for the 11th year in a row worldwide, according to a report by U.S.-based not-for-profit entity Freedom House. China ranked as the worst environment for Internet freedom for the seventh year in a row.

Sneha Dubey, India’s First Secretary, delivered a fierce ‘Right of Reply’ response that came after the Pak PM raised the issue of Kashmir in his address to the UN General Assembly. "We exercise our Right of Reply to one more attempt by the leader of Pakistan to tarnish the image of this august Forum by bringing in matters internal to my country, and going so far as to spew falsehoods on the world stage,” Sneha Dubey said in the UN General Assembly.  

Climate change threatens sustainable development, says World Meteorological Organization 



The rising concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) will affect all of the 17 United Nations-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a report issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). It poses obstructions to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by impacting food security, perpetuating poverty, gender inequality, conflict and endangering infrastructure, terrestrial, marine ecosystems and more. 

 Swiss to vote on recognising same-sex marriage in referendum 



Voters in Switzerland, one of the last Western European countries that still ban gay marriage, will determine in a referendum on September 26 whether to grant same-sex couples to get married and adopt children.
