The popularization of the slogan - ‘Khela Hobe’ (‘the game is on’ in Bengali) during the 2021 Bengal Assembly Elections led to the success of TMC. However, it seems it’s Samajwadi Party’s turn to play the same trump card in the upcoming 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

Slogans have played a massive role in Indian politics. It can flip the fortune of any party in the election. The catchy slogans and songs have always attracted the voters during elections, and this strategy has been used heavily by all three parties - Trinamool, BJP and CPI(M) in the 2021 Bengal elections. This time, the legacy of popularizing political slogans during elections is going to be taken forward by UP’s Samajwadi Party.

There is no denial in how TMC utilized the ‘Khela Hobe’ slogan against the BJP party, to assure their victory. Moreover, considering the fewer number of strong political parties against the BJP, and Congress’ failure, TMC is an inspiration now for others standing against the BJP.

Samajwadi Party borrows TMC’s ‘Khela Hobe’ for the upcoming 2022 UP Assembly elections.

Bengal has seen heavy use of slogans during elections as its culture. From, ‘Maa Maati Manush’ (Mother, Motherland, and People) to ‘Khela Hobe’, TMC is the pioneer of so many popular political slogans. However, it seems Samajwadi Party is going to adopt the same 2021 Bengal strategy against Yogi Adiyanath’s BJP government.

The preparation for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections has already started in Uttar Pradesh. This time slogans are going to be a significant factor in the upcoming election. A similar slogan “Khela Hoi” (‘the game is on’ in Bhojpuri) has already entered UP’s political belt. However, “Khela Hoi” is not the only slogan that is coined as of yet. Several slogans like “Baaes Mein Bicycle” (the bicycle (Samajwadi Party) again in 2022) and “Sukh Dukh Mein Saath Nibhayenge” (stand with you through thick and thin) have evolved all across the state. The hoarding and graffities of “khela hoi” can already be seen in the various parts of UP.

“We are certain that the people of UP will also like the slogan....they too will ensure BJP ouster from power in the 2022 assembly polls,'' the former Samajwadi Party MLA from Varanasi Abdul Samad Ansari said.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party is in strong opposition to the BJP party in Uttar Pradesh. This election has got them the opportunity to come back again in power. Hence, it will be a game-changer if the party manages to win, but BJP has its stronghold in UP as well, because of CM Yogi.

This is just the beginning and Samajwadi Party has already started strategizing for the 2021 Bengal Assembly Elections. However, nobody knows what’s next and where will it lead to. One thing that will be interesting is to witness if the same TMC’s Bengal election strategy works out for Samajwadi Party in UP or not.
