On Sunday, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani flees country and took refuge in Tajikistan, saying he wanted to avoid bloodshed. According to media reports the Taliban fanned out across Kabul. An official of the Taliban stated on condition of anonymity that they would soon announce the creation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the presidential palace in Kabul. That was the name of the country under Taliban rule before they were ousted by U.S led forces post 9/11 attacks. According to the AP News, this marked the end of 20-yr-old Western trial aimed at re-forming the country.

Extremists attacked Hindu temples, some shops and households of minorities. The incident took place in Bangladesh's Khulna district, Shiali village. With swift measures, police arrested ten people and tightened the security in the area. According to local residents and victims, the extremists attacked temples and crematoriums. They vandalized idols of Hindu gods and goddesses in Hari Mandir, Durga Mandir and the Govinda Mandir. "We are alert and active to keep the situation under control," the Officer-in-Charge of police stated.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned after accusations of sexual harassment. He was widely known for his commendable leadership and his detailed daily press conferences during the prime days of Covid-19. The investigation conducted by New York’s Attorney General found that Cuomo had sexually harassed more than ten women.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report says that today scientists are witnessing fluctuations in the Earth’s climate in every region and across the whole climate system. Many of the changes observed in the climate are unparalleled and alarming. The report has called for radical reductions in Carbon Dioxide emissions and other Green House Gases. IPCC is a “code red for humanity,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres said.

India has been a prominent partner in the peace and stability of Afghanistan, maintaining a national peace and settlement process. The government of India have already invested nearly $3 billion in aid and reconstruction projects in the war-stricken country. That kind of work, that kind of effort to help Afghanistan maintain stability and good governance is always welcome,” Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said on India-U.S. cooperation.
