ED summons Abhishek Banerjee, his wife in money laundering case 




The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife for a money laundering case connected to a coal scam in the state, officials said on Saturday. Abhishek Banerjee, 33, represents the Diamond Harbour seat in Lok Sabha and is the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). 

Calcutta University suspends fees for UG and PG students

Calcutta University has suspended all fees for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the 2021-22 academic year due to the ongoing pandemic; it applies to students of all semesters. Students will also not require to pay fees for collecting the mark sheets. 

Schools in Bengal to resume after puja vacation: Mamata Banerjee 





West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said schools in the state might resume after the puja vacations, given the pandemic situation remain below the alarming level. Educational institutes in Bengal have remained shut since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country in March last year. 

WBCS Prelims: West Bengal registers 1.8 lakh turnout, 43,000 write on-site test in Kolkata 


West Bengal has registered 1.8 lakh aspirants in 657 exam centres to appear for the West Bengal Civil Services preliminary examination. In Kolkata, around 43,000 aspirants have written examinations in 100 centres. Over 2.5 lakh persons had applied to take the examination. 

Bengal post-poll violence: CBI arrests two people in connection with death of BJP worker 




The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating post-poll violence cases in West Bengal, arrested two people on Saturday in connection with the death of BJP worker Dharma Mondal. The CBI has filed 21 FIRs and taken over the investigation into these cases. According to the investigation agency, the two accused - Bijoy Ghosh and Asima Ghosh - were briefly detained before being arrested by the probe agency.
