The president of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), Mahua Das has received criticism for highlighting the religious identity of the Class 12 state board exam topper, during the announcement of Class 12 results. “The highest marks obtained this year is 499. A Muslim girl secured the marks. She’s a Muslim lady from Murshidabad,” Das said, with political leaders claiming that the move was in line with the TMC's appeasement politics.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has sought the help of the police to distribute coupons (on a first-come, first-served basis) to those waiting in line for vaccinations at its vaccination mega-centres. This new method is being developed as part of a plan to combat scammers who have been active in the city's mega centres, scamming customers with promises of a jab at these locations.

A 57-year-old principal and one of his female colleagues at a central government school in Bankura, as well as six others, were arrested on Sunday for their suspected involvement in a child trafficking ring.
In a statement issued by the Bankura police chief, Dhritiman Sarkar said, “In the child trafficking case, we have arrested the principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, as well as seven others, including a female teacher and her husband. We have rescued five children and sent them to a government home,”

In another incident of negligence, a woman in Bankura, West Bengal was given two shots of Covishield in a gap of 10 minutes. Identified as Mandira Pal her condition deteriorated as time rolled by into night, her terrified family later admitted her to Barjora Super Specialty Hospital (BMOH). According to the Doctor from the BMOH, Mandira is doing fine. Local MLAs have taken the incident into consideration and have assured strict action for the negligence.

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday given the West Bengal administration a "last opportunity" to file an affidavit stating its position on the NHRC (National Human Rights Commission's) report on post-poll violence in the state by July 26.
A five-judge bench hearing a clutch of PILs alleging that civilians were assaulted, forced to abandon their homes, and the property was destroyed as a result of post-poll violence in Bengal, the matter will be taken up for hearing again on July 28.
