Stan Swamy, the human rights activist, passes away at 84

Stanislaus Lourduswamy, also known as Stan Swamy, was an Indian Roman Catholic priest, a well-renowned member of the Jesuit Order, and a human rights activist for several decades. He died nine months after National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him alleging his involvement in January 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence. He was booked under anti-terror law, the UAPA, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He faced several repeated rejections on bail pleas, regardless of him having Parkinson’s disease. He became severely ill after he was diagnosed of Covid-19, his condition further deteriorated and finally he lost his battle.

After repeated efforts and severe attempts of containing COVID-19, there's another virus terrorizing Kerala. On Thursday, July 8, 13 cases were reported in Kerala of the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne virus for the very first time. It spreads mostly by the Aedes species of mosquito which is also responsible for the transmission of dengue, yellow fever etc. The incubation period is estimated to be 3-14 days where the symptoms generally last for 2-7 days. As of yet no specific treatment or vaccine has been created. However, the CDC advises people with the symptoms of the virus to drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest. The treatment for the pain and fever can be done with commonly known medicines.

Last week, a video went viral on the Internet showing several tourists in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh flouting Covid 19 norms as without masks and no social distancing. Although, the Health Ministry, has warned against such ‘Revenge Travels’, the number of tourists keep rising in other hill stations as well like Dehradun, Shimla and etc.

Muhammad Yusuf Khan popularly known as Dilip Kumar, the tragedy king of Bollywood sadly passes away at the age of 98 years on 7th of July. His legendary works of the portrayal of war, valour, sacrifice and selfless love will always be remembered.

On Friday, July 9, the lawyer representing WhatsApp at Delhi HC has updated that WhatsApp users won't be compelled to sign the new policy as of yet since "it had been put on hold." Moreover, the company would not limit the users yet to accept the new policy, or even de-platform them until the new personal data protection bill becomes the law in India.
