John Barla, BJP MP had sworn in as the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs and had recently demanded separate statehood for North Bengal. “We want peace to return to West Bengal. The central schemes should be implemented,” said the BJP MP.

Two new black cases were recorded on July 17, in the state. These two new cases took the overall confirmed black fungus case to 77. The number of deaths from such cases stands at 18.

The schools in non-covid zones can reopen but just four classes 8 to 12 said the government. It might be put to action from July 15.
Nishith Pramanik, the youngest member of Modi’s team

Nishith Pramanik on July 17 took oath as Union Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Minister of States, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports from West Bengal in Modi’s cabinet. He is the first-ever central minister from Cooch Behar. He is likely to be the youngest minister in this cabinet at the age of 35.
Another legendary loss - Keshav Dutt

Keshav Dutt was one of the remains of the lost golden era of Indian hockey. He was a two-time Olympic gold medallist. Sadly, he passed away at 95 due to old age ailments in Kolkata.
