Cannes Film Festival 2021: The Winners at a glimpse

The Cannes Film Festival 2021 came to an end last week on 17th July with all its prestigious awards presented and the winners declared. Here is a quick look through to all the prime categories and their achievers. 

Palma d’Or  


The award carrying the highest value and respect in the Cannes Film Festival was given to Julia Ducournau of France for ‘Titane’.  

The title of the film translates to ‘Titanium’ and is a Thriller-Drama which should be worth a watch even after getting a 6.5 rating on IMDb. 

Grand Prix 

The second most prestigious title for the Cannes Film Festival was a tie between Ashgar Farhadi of Iran for ‘A Hero’ and Juho Kuosmanen of Finland for ‘Compartment no. 6’.

‘A Hero’ is an Iranian Drama-Thriller with IMDb rating of 8.6.

On the other hand, ‘Compartment no. 6’ is a Drama film based on a novel by Rosa Liksom. It has an IMDb rating of 6.5.  

Best Director 


Leos Carax of France won the Best Director awards for his direction in ‘Annette’. The film is a Musical-Drama on parenthood with an IMDb rating of 7. 

Best Actress

Renate Reinsve won the award for ‘The Worst Person in the World’. The film is a Comedy-Drama and the third installment in the ‘Oslo Trilogy’. It has an IMDb rating of 7.9.  

Best Actor

Caleb Landry Jones of Australia won it for ‘Nitram’.  

A Drama-Thriller which revolves around the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996. It was a public shoot out which took 35 innocent lives in Tasmania. The IMDb rating for the film is 6. 

Best Screenplay

Hamaguchi Ryusuke and Takamasa Oe of Japan wrote the Best Screenplay for ‘Drive My Car’.  

The movie is based on a Short Story by Haruki Murakami carrying the same title. The IMDb rating of the film is 6.7. 

Jury Prize  

Shared by Nadav Lapid of Israel for ‘Ahed’s Knee’ and Apichatpong Weerasethakul of Thailand for ‘Memoria’ tied for the Jury Prize. 


 

Short Film Palme d’Or 


Tang Yi went on to receive the Short Film Palme d’Or as well for ‘All the Crows In The World’. 

Special Jury Mention for Short Film 


‘August Sky’ by Jasmin Tenucci of Brazil earned the Special Mentions from the Jury in the Festival.
